SAN BENEDETTO DEI MARSI - Filippo D'Aiuto defied the odds and, in a stage that seemed destined for sprinters, accomplished a veritable feat, crowning a nearly 130-kilometer breakaway with flying colors. The General Store - Essegibi - F.lli Curia rider had broken away from the pack at kilometer 30, accompanied by Manuel Oioli, Giacomo Garavaglia, Michele Pascarella, Jack Makohon, and Omer Ramon. After building a maximum lead of 4:35, the leading sextet began to fall apart. D'Aiuto initially accelerated alongside Oioli, and then, with 14 kilometers to go, he set off on his own.
