SAN BENEDETTO DEI MARSI – Filippo D'Aiuto bucked the pre-race predictions and, in a stage that seemed destined for sprinters, accomplished a veritable feat, crowning a nearly 130-kilometer breakaway with flying colors. The General Store – Essegibi – F.lli Curia rider had broken away from the peloton at kilometer 30, accompanied by Manuel Oioli, Giacomo Garavaglia, Michele Pascarella, Jack Makohon, and Omer Ramon. After building a maximum lead of 4'35", the leading sextet began to fall apart. D'Aiuto initially accelerated alongside Oioli, and then, with 14 kilometers to go, he set off on his own. Despite his attempted comeback, the peloton was unable to reabsorb the 24-year-old from Friuli, who was thus able to celebrate his second professional victory. Godon, just 2" behind, prevailed in the sprint for second place, edging out Tommaso Dati and donning the Maglia Ciclamino at the end of the stage.
In the final stage of the Giro d'Abruzzo Carta Giovani Nazionale, 182 kilometers from Silvi to Controguerra, with a particularly challenging final circuit, Alessandro Fancellu will have to defend the Leader's Jersey from the attacks of Lennart Jasch and Mathys Rondel, who lost 4 seconds to the MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort rider today and are now 8 and 10 seconds behind, respectively. Godon follows, moving up to fourth place, 11 seconds behind, with the trio of Ludovico Crescioli, Kevin Vauquelin, and Diego Ulissi 12 seconds behind.
