Monza swept Cagliari 4-0 with two goals and an assist from Varela.

(PRIMASPORT) MONZA – Monza secured their second home victory, thrashing Cagliari 4-0 at the Stadio Brianteo, their biggest ever Serie A victory. The match started evenly, but in the 20th minute, goalkeeper Tornqvist had to deny a close-range effort from Nzola, then came out to save a Mendy shot in the 27th. The Sardinians' efforts ran out of steam, and Monza took control. Kouadio broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, looping a pass from Dany Mota past Caprile to celebrate his first Serie A goal. This success adds to his recent call-up to the Azzurri by coach Roberto Mancini. Juric's team nearly doubled the lead in the 44th minute through Mangas, who was beaten before the shot could be scored. The 2-0 was sealed two minutes into the second half when Varela received a Foe Ondoa cross, controlled it, and curled a right-footed shot into the far corner of the far post. The Portuguese striker scored his fifth goal in seven Serie A games and his seventh of the season. Three minutes later, Caprile prevented a third defeat from Dany Mota. In the 17th minute, Cagliari attempted to get back into the game with a header from Mina, deflected into a corner by Tornqvist. After Colpani came on for Dany Mota, Monza scored their third in the 21st minute. Varela assisted Robinson, who struck a right-footed shot past Caprile, who was saved by the post from Colpani's curling shot in the 27th minute. In the 34th minute, Robinson hit the post, and Varela was ready to tap in the rebound for his second consecutive home brace, making it 4-0. Tornqvist denied Kevin Carlos's consolation goal in the closing stages. Monza ended Cagliari's promising run of form and made a significant leap in the standings, under the watchful eye of President Lauren Crampsie. Pisacane's team leaves the Brianteo with four goals conceded, more than they had conceded in the first six matchdays. The Sardinian coach was very harsh, apologizing to the 1,400 fans who had come to Monza, who he said had witnessed a massacre, before adding: "YesWe came back to earth and, against a team we knew everything about, we should have done better."
