(PRIMASPORT) Jannik Sinner remains at the top of the ATP Rankings, but Alexander Zverev is close to displacing him and could become world number one as early as next Monday if he reaches the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 in Vienna, which began today. Only one newcomer is in the top 10: Frenchman Arthur Fils climbs to eighth place, while Flavio Cobolli maintains his sixth spot and continues his quest to qualify for the ATP Finals.
Currently, only three players are guaranteed a spot in the Turin Finals: Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Ben Shelton. Cobolli will be looking to gain valuable points in the Austrian tournament, which features other contenders such as Daniil Medvedev, Frances Tiafoe, and Alex De Minaur, the latter currently the first of the excluded. Fils and the other qualifier, Spaniard Jodar, are playing in Basel alongside Novak Djokovic, who is ranked eleventh.
In the ATP rankings, Italy retains eight players in the top 100: Luciano Darderi (23rd), Lorenzo Musetti (26th, winner in Lyon), Matteo Arnaldi (36th), Matteo Berrettini (48th), Mattia Bellucci (66th, up two spots), Lorenzo Sonego (91st), and the others mentioned, maintaining a significant presence on the top circuit.
