POTENZA - Spaniard Igor Arrieta won the Firo d'Italia stage in Potenza, made difficult by adverse weather conditions, but despite this, he overtook Portuguese rider Afonso Eulalio, his breakaway companion, who took solace in the pink jersey. Rain, hail, and crashes hit the 203 km from the start in Praia a Mare. Former leader Silva, Uruguayan, finished third, 51 seconds behind, followed by Milesi, Scaroni, and Garofoli, 1:29 behind. The peloton was 5:15 behind. Giulio Ciccone lost the leader's jersey. The stage featured two mountain categorized climbs, in the third and second categories. The protagonists of the day's long breakaway arrived in a blur.
