The 2026 Unity Euro Cup dedicated to refugees in football kicks off in Coverciano.

(PRIMASPORT) COVERCIANO The Unity Euro Cup 2026 kicks off tomorrow at the Federal Technical Center in Coverciano, a tournament organized by UEFA in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, dedicated to refugees and host communities. The event, held for the first time in Italy, celebrates football as a tool for social inclusion.

The fifth edition features 22 teams of 11 players each: seven refugees and four representatives of host communities, with at least three women per team. Matches are played seven-a-side. The Italian team, with athletes from various countries including Mali, Afghanistan, and Cameroon, has participated in all previous editions, achieving its best finish of third place in 2022.

The participating teams come from 21 European countries, including Albania, Austria, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland, as well as a representative from the European Union. The tournament will be held in a group format, as the number of participants is the highest ever, approximately 400 people including athletes and staff.

Italy will open their tournament against Poland, Armenia, and Malta on Thursday morning, with the final scheduled for 5:30 p.m. the same day, followed by the awards ceremony. (PRIMASPORT)
