(PRIMASPORT) COVERCIANO – The Unity Euro Cup 2026, a seven-a-side football tournament dedicated to the integration of refugees and host communities, took place in Coverciano, Italy, with the participation of twenty-two teams from twenty-one European countries and one team representing the European Union. The event, organized by UEFA in collaboration with UNHCR, brought together nearly four hundred people for a day of sport and solidarity.
Despite the Italian team's early exit, finishing thirteenth, the competition concluded with a 2-1 victory for Latvia, defeating the Republic of Ireland in the final. Giancarlo Antognoni, head of delegation for the Under-21 national team, emphasized the inclusive value of the event, calling it "an extraordinary source of integration" and recalling that football unites beyond results on the pitch.
The event was also attended by the FIGC Secretary General, Marco Brunelli, and other officials, a testament to the social importance attributed to this initiative. (PRIMASPORT)
