(PRIMASPORT) VALDOBBIADENE Riccardo Monaco, a Rieti athlete with Winter Sport Subiaco, has won the Italian Next Pro Roller Ski Cup in the M2 category for the third consecutive year. The national circuit concluded over the weekend with the final stages in Valdobbiadene and Caneva di Pordenone.
Monaco finished the final 7.8 km classic technique race, with a climb and 660 meters of elevation gain, in second place in his category, improving on his time from the previous year by almost a minute, stopping the clock at 41 minutes and 26 seconds. On the final podium of the national circuit, Gabriele Biella of Team Brianza took second place, followed by Alessio Berlanda of Team Futura.
Monaco's season was marked by a very consistent performance in hillclimbs: out of 16 total stages, with the possibility of discarding up to four results, he participated in 12 events, achieving 11 podium finishes. He took on trips to various Italian regions, from Friuli to Sicily, Liguria, Emilia, Trentino, and Veneto. Despite a reduced preparation period in the last two months, Monaco managed to maintain a consistent pace throughout the season.
The athlete, a lawyer who works in the United States, managed his energy despite the constant transatlantic flights necessary to balance work and sports activities.
Monaco's personal success is part of the overall triumph of his team, the Winter Sport Subiaco ski club, which won its third consecutive Italian Rollerskiing Cup, beating SS Mladina and SC Orsago. This result confirms the quality of the Lazio and Sardinia Regional Committee's sports school, which trains outstanding athletes in both rollerskiing and cross-country skiing. Numerous individual podium finishes were achieved by the club's athletes in all youth categories, consolidating the team's value.
With the summer season behind us, attention is now turning to winter preparation, with the goal of transferring athletic fitness to the cross-country ski trails. (PRIMASPORT)
