LONDON – Jannik Sinner defeated Jenson Brooksby, ranked No. 81 in ATP, in three sets, 64, 63, 64, reaching the Wimbledon round of 16 for the fifth time in a row, tying Nicola Pierangeli's record. The world number one needed only a break in the seventh game to win the first set. He repeated the feat in the sixth game of the second set, while early in the third, Sinner lost his serve only to recover with an immediate counterbreak. At 4-3, he scored another break, and Brooksby responded, reducing the deficit to 5-4 and remaining in the match only long enough to lose his own serve with a forehand error, handing the match to the Italian.
Now in Sinner's path is the 23 year old Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki, n.151 ATP, who comes from the qualifications and eliminated the Spaniard Rafael Jodar, n.26 in the ranking and 23rd in the seeding, by 16 76(5) 64 64.
