LONDON – Jannik Sinner has gone down in legend. He retained his Wimbledon title for the second consecutive time, a feat achieved by only nine other major tennis stars on London's grass courts. Sinner won his fifth Grand Slam singles title by beating Zverev in four sets with a final score of 6-7(7) 7-6(2) 6-3 6-4 after 3 hours and 46 minutes of play. This is the world number one's 100th major victory, a feat never achieved before by an Italian player. His second Wimbledon victory is the 117th title for an Italian on the major circuit.
The first two sets went to a tiebreak, with Zverev leading and quickly equalized by Sinner. The first break of the match came in the eighth game of the third set, after Sinner saved a break point with a drop shot that the German fortunately slipped on without injury. Zverev squandered three break points at 4-4, then Sinner gained a lead and won the next exchange, getting up after a fall and managing to earn the deciding point thanks to a forehand out from Zverev.
In the fourth set, Sinner broke the tie in the seventh game, with Zverev coming back from 15-40 with an ace and a run to the net, but lost the point on deuce. At 5-4, Sinner capitalized on match point with a down-the-line winner.
The match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon 2026 was the fifteenth Italian final with an Italian player on the court in men's singles in a Slam, the seventh for the South Tyrolean, who he managed to win twice in a row at Wimbledon, as only after Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the Open Era.
