FIGC President Giovanni Malagò has chosen Diana Bianchedi as head of delegation for the Italian national football team. Following Gigi Riva, Gianluca Vialli, and Gianluigi Buffon, this is a surprise choice that defied all expectations. The former fencing champion, deputy vice president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), welcomed the appointment with enthusiasm. A 1995 graduate in medicine and surgery, specializing in sports medicine, and inducted into the International Fencing Federation's Hall of Fame, Diana Bianchedi is 56 years old, married to foil fencer Gianmarco Amore, and has two children. In nominating Diana Bianchedi, the FIGC president spoke of a cultural revolution, believing she could bring the national team closer to the rest of the Italian sporting world.
However, in relation to the announced appointment of its deputy vice president within the FIGC, CONI has announced that, pursuant to the Statute and applicable laws, it has activated the relevant offices and competent bodies to assess any potential opportunities, ineligibility, and incompatibility, to protect the National Council.
