PARIS – One Matteo reaches the semifinals while the other is forced to retire. It wasn't the desired outcome of the derby, but Matteo Arnaldi advances to Roland Garros. Matteo Berrettini suffers a thigh injury and retires in the second set, after nearly two hours of play, with the score at 7-5, 5-2. Therefore, Ligurian Arnaldi will face Flavio Cobolli in the semifinals. And that means an Italian player in the Grand Slam final.
Berrettini started with a double break, but was caught up and lost the set. In the second set, he recovered from Arnaldi's break, then suffered a left adductor injury and was forced to retire. "I didn't want to win like this," said Arnaldi, a bit disappointed by the ending, which resulted in him retiring.
