ROME Francesco Totti recalled September 11, 2001, the day the attack on the Twin Towers in the United States occurred, linking it to his Champions League experience against Real Madrid. "More than the Roma-Real Madrid match, I remember what happened in the US and the attack on the Twin Towers," said the former Roma captain on the sidelines of the first stage of the World Legends Padel Tour.
“"The match was in doubt until the very end, but in the end we played, but it was a surreal match, a different match. I wouldn't have played out of respect for all the people who died, all the Americans, everything that had happened," added Totti, also recalling his first Champions League goal on that occasion.
“I'm so sorry, it's been so long and we still remember that terrible episode,” concluded the footballer, underlining how deeply that event affected that sporting and personal moment.
