MILAN – Francesca Lollobrigida was in the running for a repeat gold medal, given her stellar form and the shattered Olympic record in the 3,000m. The Italian figure skater won gold in the 5,000m, five days after her victory in the 3,000m speed skating event. On the Milan track, the 35-year-old covered the distance in 6:46.17, beating Merel Conijn of the Netherlands by a tenth and Ragne Wiklund of Norway by 17 seconds. Francesca Lollobrigida's list of achievements includes a silver medal in the 3,000m and a bronze in the mass start at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, as well as the 5,000m world title in Hamar in 2025.

CORTINA - Italian triumph in the Luge at the Milan-Cortina Olympics. After the triumph of Voetter/Oberhofer, comes the splendid feat of Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner who, with a sensational second run, win the gold medal in the doubles. The Italian pair, who were third, managed to finish with a time of 1'45"086, leaving behind the Austrians Steu/Kindl (68 thousandths behind) and the Germans Wendl/Arlt (90). A second bitter descent for the Americans Mueller/Haugsjaa: from first to sixth. Seventh place instead for the other Italians Nagler/Malleier (1'45"304).
