TOKYO – Matteo Arnaldi has qualified for the second round of the Japan Open Tennis Championships (ATP 500) after defeating Rei Sakamoto in three sets on the hard courts of the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo. The 25-year-old from Sanremo, currently ranked No. 37 in the ATP rankings, defeated the No. 137 Japanese player, who entered the main draw via a wild card, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in over two hours of play. In the second round, Arnaldi will face No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz, who is due to make his debut against American Michelsen on Thursday.
