CALIFORNIA - With a double tiebreak, Jannik Sinner defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (6) 7-6 (4) to win the Indian Wells tournament for the first time in his career. On the Californian hard court, it was also the first title of the year for the 24-year-old Italian, currently ranked world number 2. The match lasted one hour and 57 minutes. Neither player dropped serve at any point. Sinner demonstrated his usual mental fortitude, winning both tiebreaks. In the second set, he was even down 0-4 and won seven consecutive points.

The match ended in 1:07, a decidedly more comfortable affair than his round of 16 match against Tiafoe: again, two sets, but fiercely contested and decided in a tiebreak. In the semifinals, his third in the California tournament, Sinner will face Zverev (the No. 4 seed).
