Olympics: A superb Federica Brignone wins gold in the Super-G ahead of France's Miradoli.

(PRIMASPORT) CORTINA – A superstar Federica Brignone won the gold medal in the Super-G at the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Ten months after a serious injury involving a fractured tibia and torn knee ligament, the Aosta-born champion is back as Italy's top skier. On the Tofane slope, she finished 0.41 ahead of France's Miradoli and 0.52 ahead of Austria's Huetter. The historic day for the Italians was further enhanced by a strong fifth-place finish from Laura Pirovano and a seventh-place finish from Elena Curtoni. A fall, however, stopped Sofia Goggia.
35-year-old Federica Brignone's DNA carries the spirit of a champion, like that of her mother, Ninna Quario, who was a former Italian skier. A "super fan" was at the event, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. (PRIMASPORT)
