(PRIMASPORT) In 2027, MotoGP will introduce a new format for race weekends, with doubling the number of qualifying sessions and a separate starting grid for the Sprint race and the Grand Prix. The goal is to enhance the on-track spectacle, complementing the previously announced technical changes, such as the reduction in engine capacity to 850cc, aerodynamic modifications, and bike weight reduction.
Friday's schedule includes a 45-minute free practice session (FP1) followed by a 30-minute session (FP2), which will no longer affect qualifying. At the end of Friday, the new 15-minute qualifying session for the Sprint race will take place, open to all drivers.
Saturday will begin with a third 20-minute free practice session (FP3), followed by qualifying for the Grand Prix: all drivers will participate in Q1 and only the top 12 will advance to Q2. The Sprint race, based on the grid determined by Friday's qualifying, will be Saturday's main event.
On Sunday, after the Moto3 and Moto2 races, the MotoGP warm-up will take place shortly before the Grand Prix. The pit lane will remain open for ten minutes, allowing the riders a final reconnaissance of the track and final checks before the start. (PRIMASPORT)
