Matthew Brennan triumphs in Seville, a hat-trick for him at the 2026 Vuelta.

SEVILLE – Matthew Brennan (Visma–Lease a Bike) claimed back-to-back stage wins at the start of the final week of the Vuelta, dominating the sprint in Seville (stage 17) the day after his victory at La Rabida. At just 21 years old, the “Binman” becomes the first rider since Eddy Planckaert to win five stages in his Vuelta debut. For a rider with five stage wins in his first Grand Tour appearance, Brennan goes back to 1979, when Fons de Wolf achieved the feat at the Vuelta. This time, Brennan prevailed over Jordi Meeus (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Magnus Cort (Uno-X Mobility), two of the most consistent sprinters in the Vuelta 26; Alessandro Romele finished fourth. Thursday's individual time trial will put a very diverse group of riders in the spotlight, with the top riders vying for the stage win and the overall contenders testing their strengths ahead of the final two mountain battles. Enric Mas (Movistar) remains in the red jersey with a 2:06 lead over Felix Gall and 2:10 over Primoz Roglic.
