(PRIMASPORT) APPIANO GENTILE – Young amateur Matteo Manini leads the way after the first round of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, an Alps Tour and Italian Pro Tour tournament, currently underway at La Pinetina Golf Club in Appiano Gentile (Como). Manini finished with an excellent 63, seven under par, thanks to a string of seven consecutive birdies.

Behind Manini, just one shot behind with 64, are Andrea Romano, Andrea Rota, and Argentine Grego Ferrandez. Frenchman Theo Brizard and Spaniard Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela follow with 65s. Frenchman Alexandre Vandermoten, the Alps Tour ranking leader, finished seventh with 66, along with other notable players such as Enrico Di Nitto and Gregory Molteni.

The Giorgio Bordoni Memorial, now in its twelfth year and sponsored by the Lombardy Region, pays tribute to Giorgio Bordoni, the longtime federal coach of the Italian national golf teams. The tournament, which marks the closing of the Alps Tour regular season before the Grand Final in Belgium, offers a prize pool of €47,000 on a 54-hole course with a cut after 36 holes for the top 40 finishers.

Matteo Manini, born in 2009 and a member of the Le Fonti Golf Club, said: "I played very well, scoring seven birdies in a row. Now I don't want to think about the rankings, but just make the fewest shots possible. I thank my family and my coaches, Giovanni Dassù and Camilla Mazzola, for their technical support."
