(PRIMASPORT) SHANGHAI Matteo Arnaldi kicked off his Shanghai Masters 1000 campaign with a victory, defeating Bernard Tomic 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. After a strong performance in Tokyo against Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian, ranked number 38 in the ATP rankings, dominated the match against the Australian qualifier, now ranked number 185 in the world.
In the second round, Arnaldi will face American Taylor Fritz, the 11th seed in the tournament and 12th in the world rankings. Their previous matches are 1-1, both on hard courts: Arnaldi won in Acapulco two years ago, while Fritz prevailed in Washington last season in straight sets. (PRIMASPORT)
