NAPLES, JULY 3, 2026 – Luna Rossa's first training session took place in the waters of the Gulf of Naples. The Italian crew took to the water with their AC40s off Castel dell'Ovo, officially inaugurating the approach to the preliminary regattas of the America's Cup and the 38th edition of the competition, which will take place in 2027.
The team, which arrived in the city a few days ago and is temporarily hosted at the Cantieri Palumbo Shipyard, has carried out its first tests on the race course that will host the Preliminary Regattas from September 24th to 27th and, next year, the Louis Vuitton Cup, which will determine Team New Zealand's America's Cup challenger. The first official regatta is scheduled for July 10th, 2027.

Before setting sail, the entire Luna Rossa crew and the president of the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, Roberto Mottola di Amato, were received at Palazzo San Giacomo by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
«"Today Luna Rossa's adventure begins in Naples," declared the mayor. "We extend our city's best wishes to the team, Max Sirena, and the Bertelli family. Luna Rossa represents Italy and can count on the full support and cheering of all of Naples.".
During the meeting, the mayor presented the team with the city's official crest.

Team director Max Sirena also expressed great enthusiasm.

Sirena also recalled her connection with the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia.
