Italy beat Belarus 2-0 in the first leg of the 2027 Women's World Cup playoffs.

(PRIMASPORT) Tbilisi – Italy won 2-0 against Belarus on neutral ground in Tbilisi, Georgia, in the first leg of the first round of the playoffs for qualification to the 2027 Women's World Cup. Both goals came in the second half: Piemonte scored in the 16th minute and Polli in the 46th.

“"It's the victory we wanted, the one we've been searching for, and it gives us tremendous optimism for the next match," said coach Soncin. "We created chances, played in their half, and avoided all their transitions, even though we can certainly be more effective in the closing stages.".

The next match will be Tuesday, October 13th, at the Franchi stadium in Florence, a stadium that evokes fond memories. There, the Azzurre celebrated their qualification for the 2019 World Cup and the 2022 European Championships. This time, the stakes will be a spot in the second and decisive play-off round in early December against Serbia or Finland (the Scandinavian team won 3-1 in front of their home fans), the final hurdle in the race to Brazil 2027.
