Athletics championships: Athletic Club 96 Alperia Bolzano in the masculine, Athletics Brescia 1950 in the feminine. These are the verdicts of the Gold Final of the Absolute Club Championships staged over the weekend in Rieti. The South Tyrolean club returns to Italian success after winning in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024. The Lombardy club, undefeated since 2019, celebrated its eighth consecutive title on a 33-degree Sunday at the Guidobaldi Stadium, ready to host the European Under-18 Championships in less than a month.
Eleven podiums over the weekend for Bolzano, including victories for Lorenzo Ianes in the 100m, Oliver Mulas in the 110m hurdles, Mohamed Jhinaoui in the 5000m and Leonardo Pini in the long jump, second places for Jhinaoui (1500m), Berihun Kebede (3000m steeplechase), Nick Ponzio (shot put), Danilo D'Alessandro (discus), and the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, combined with third place for Federico Bruno in the triple jump. In the standings, the club of president Bruno Telchini totaled 179 points and beat Atletica Firenze Marathon (171) and Studentesca Milardi Rieti (161.5).
Among the women, the 'lionesses' continue to dominate the championship final: the face of this latest triumph is Gloria Hooper, who scored a hat-trick in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay. Successes also for Alice Mangione in the 400, Alexandra Almici (800) and 4x400 relay. In total, there are twelve podiums for the girls of president Sebastiano Di Pasquale, also considering the second places of Elena Carraro (100 hurdles), Agata Gremi (hammer), Alexandrina Mihai (5000 race walk) and the third places of Fanta Formaini Marioni Kaba (1500), Giulia Zanne (5000) and Sofia Coppari (shot put). In the 'general' she accumulated 185 points, ahead of Studentesca Milardi (157.5) and Bracco Atletica (155).
The most notable result of the day is Leonardo's 21.66 Blacksmiths (Atl. Firenze Marathon/Aeronautica): the European shot put champion scores his fifth consecutive victory after Rome, Lucca, Pergine Valsugana and Ostrava. Tokyo Olympic 4x100 relay champion Fausto Desalu (Libertas Unicusano Livorno/Fiamme Gialle) dominated the 200 meters with a time of 20.48 (+0.5). Gloria Hooper (Atl. Brescia 1950) completed the double after the 100, also winning the 200 with 23.52 (+0.9), once again ahead of Kelly Doualla (Cus Pro Patria Milano) who is becoming increasingly confident with this distance too, setting a personal best of 23.60 and becoming the fourth fastest Italian student ever.
SILVER AND BRONZE FINAL – In the Silver Final of Modena there is double success for the’Us Quercia Dao Conad. Among the men, the Trentino club with 163.5 precedes Cus Pro Patria Milano (158), Cus Palermo (142) and Nissolino Sport (142) while in the women's category, together with the Rovereto club, first with 169 points, Acsi Futuratletica (162), Cus Parma (152) and Atletica Gran Sasso Teramo (134) earn promotion.
A Borgo Valbelluna (Belluno) on day 2 of the Bronze Final, the Italian record holder for the 400 metres, Edoardo Scotti (Cus Parma/Carabinieri), won the 200 metres with 21.49 (+1.0). First place in the standings for the men's team Trevisatletica (167.5 points) and for the women of the’Mondovì Athletics Acqua San Bernardo (148).
