Garlic European U18 Championships Of Rieti, two Italian medals in the 5000m women's track walking: European title at Rieti for Rebecca D'Alessandro (22:58.95), standard-bearer of Polisportiva Tethys Chieti (17 years old in ten days), and third place for Caterina Dearest (23:21.37), from Bergamo, part of Atletica Brescia 1950. The Abruzzo walker made the decisive break with two kilometers to go, with split times of 4:31 and 4:30 that made her uncatchable for all the others, succeeding her friend and training partner Serena Di Fabio after two years. Lombardy's Carissimi (Atl. Brescia 1950) also put in a quality performance, battling until the final lap with Spain's Paula Elvira, second in 23:18.98.
Alessandra takes flight above Bighi: surprise silver with a personal best of 1.82, improving by five centimetres, surpassed on the final jump by Poland's Karina Nizynska (1.84). A vibrant final in which the Italian, still sixteen years old, came close to success and twice set her own record with 1.80 on her third attempt and 1.82 on her second, after having tied it with 1.77 on her third and final attempt. Laura Catalano (Acsi Atl. Campidoglio) was fourth with 1.74, while the bronze went to Germany's Lea Volcker (1.80).
Second place in the 100m hurdles for continental record holder Alessia Juice, conditioned by errors on the first two barriers: 13.14 (+0.9) behind the German Delisha Benelisa Domingos (13.00), bronze for the French Anna Peeters (13.21).
Georgia Castiglione, Kelly Douala, Elisa Shoemakers, Micol Candid They finished in third place (2:07.43) with the 100-200-300-400 meter relay. The Czech Republic won in 2:05.65 ahead of Poland (2:06.99).
