(PRIMASPORT) BEIJING – Alexander Zverev won the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, defeating Britain's Cameron Norrie 7-6 (7/1), 6-4. The German, world number 2, thus confirmed his dominance against Norrie, who lost for the ninth time in as many meetings on the main circuit.
Zverev, 29, has never managed to reach the world number one ranking, currently held by Jannik Sinner, who is absent from Beijing. With a 1,370-point gap to Sinner, Zverev will be unable to overtake the Italian even if he wins the tournament.
In the second round, Zverev will face either Argentine Sebastian Baez, ranked number 51, or Chinese Shang Juncheng, ranked number 250. (PRIMASPORT)
