(PRIMASPORT) The Italian women's team continues its winning streak at the World Skate Games of Asuncion 2026. The blue ones of the’roller hockey, led by the technical commissioner Valerio Antezza, they also surpassed the Colombia 1-0, achieving their fifth consecutive victory and finishing in first place Group B. The challenge was decided by Elena Tamiozzo, once again the protagonist with a decisive goal. Now the attention shifts to the semi-final against’Argentina, scheduled for 10:30 pm.
A victory has secured the Italian women's team a perfect record in the first round of the competition. Elena Tamiozzo's 1-0 victory over the South Americans secured the Italian women's team a spot in the semifinals: it's the fourth consecutive time the national team has reached the top four of the World Cup, following in the footsteps of Barcelona, San Juan, and Novara. Tamiozzo's goal was her 12th in five matches, during which she has been on the scoresheet in every match. A very positive group stage for the women's team, led by coach Valerio Antezza, who, in five matches, have scored 60 goals and conceded only two (leading to the best defensive performance of the entire tournament, ahead of Spain with three). Elena Tamiozzo's long-range strike broke the deadlock, slotting the winner into the near post at 6.59. The match saw the Azzurre maintain possession of the ball for most of the time even if the Colombian team had some dangerous counterattacks: the clearest opportunity fell on the stick of Gabriela Delgado who hit the crossbar in the first half of the match, while Caretta did well on two other occasions to be ready for shots from the number seven and Ferreira. In the second half the pattern of the match did not change, with the Azzurre having numerous opportunities, the most interesting with Sofia Bertinato e Ludovica Rossetto, but they failed to find the target for the 2-0. In the final minutes, Tamiozzo missed a penalty, the shot was saved by Escalas. The group stage ends with the’Italy in first position with 15 points, followed by 12 Portugal (which will address the Spain in the semi-final), Colombia at 9, Brazil 6, Mexico 3 and India 0.
