NEW YORK – Ticket prices for the first US Open semifinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium between Alexander Zverev and Karen Khachanov have plummeted. At the start of the tournament, a good seat cost at least $322, but within hours of the match, prices dropped to as low as $911.
Tickets can currently be purchased for around $22, with peaks of $19 on platforms like StubHub. This is a paradoxical price, given that it grants access to the match of the world number two, the recent Roland Garros champion, and is even lower than the price of the famous "Honey Deuce" cocktail, the symbol of the US Open, which retails for $23.
The depreciation, although it mainly affects the upper sections of the stadium, is a very rare occurrence in the final stages of a Grand Slam tournament. The main cause is the early elimination of top favorites Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, whose presence had captured global attention and boosted ticket demand.
Conversely, interest remains high in the US derby between Shelton and Tiafoe, a sign that Zverev, despite being one of the season's strongest players, doesn't command the same media appeal as the first two eliminated. This situation highlights how the public's appetite for tennis is strongly influenced by the presence of Sinner and Alcaraz.
