ROME - The news of Sandro Mazzola's passing has reached the entire Italian sports world, which has universally shared the condolences expressed by CONI, remembering his brilliant career with Inter (four league titles, two European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups) and with the national team (70 caps and 22 goals for the Azzurri, he won the 1968 European Championship and participated in three World Cups, including Mexico '70, where the team led by coach Ferruccio Valcareggi reached the final).
Sandro Mazzola, the only Italian player and the only player from an Italian team to have scored in two different European Cup/Champions League finals (in 1964 and 1967), was inducted into the 'Italian Football Hall of Fame' in 2014 and the CONI awarded him the Gold Medal for exceptional merits.
CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio invites National Sports Federations, Associated Sports Disciplines, and Sports Promotion Bodies to observe a minute of silence at all sporting events taking place in Italy this weekend, to honor the memory of Sandro Mazzola.
