AUSTRALIA – Two Italians reach the quarter-finals in Melbourne. Jannik Sinner wins the derby against Luciano Darderi 6-1 6-3 7-6 (2) and continues his title defense. The ATP no. 2 continues to lead until midway through the second set, when the Italian-Argentinean begins to put him in difficulty. In the third, Darderi doesn't concede a break and even has a few chances, but then surrenders in the tie-break.
Lorenzo Musetti achieved his best result in Australia and secured a quarterfinal tie with Djokovic. He managed a clever match against Taylor Fritz, winning 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in 2:04. Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals but was unable to play due to Mensik's withdrawal due to abdominal pain.
