NAPLES - After the silver medal won by coach Julio Velasco's women's team, head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi has announced the 14-man squad for the European Men's Volleyball Championships. A record-breaking set in the first match of the FIPAV Cup Men Elite, an international tournament featuring Italy, Germany, Cuba, and Brazil. The men's national team, led by De Giorgi, came from behind to defeat Germany in a tiebreaker, but more importantly, they played out a first set that lasted an hour and a half. The set, which ended 66-64 in favor of Germany, sets the record for the longest set in volleyball history. It broke the previous record set in the 2026 VNL for the match between Argentina and Poland, which ended 50-48 in 62 minutes of play on the 28th.
