(PRIMASPORT) PARIS – Simone Alessio returned to compete at the 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Paris, after overcoming a meniscus operation and the subsequent recovery period that had kept him away from competition since the Grand Prix in Rome.
The Italian athlete, an Olympic bronze medalist in the +80 kg category, won in Paris in 2024, was stopped in the quarterfinals. In his debut round of 16 match, he defeated Uzbekistan's Yodgorbex Zhuraboev, while in the quarterfinals he was defeated by Tunisia's Motaz Ifaui, 2-0.
Despite the elimination, the greatest achievement for Alessio was his return to competitive competition. For Italy, the Paris Grand Prix concluded yesterday with a bronze medal won by Antonino Bossolo in the K44 -70 kg Para Taekwondo event, his third consecutive medal on the circuit after silver medals in Rome and Muju.
Attention now turns to the Grand Prix Final in Astana, the final major event on the circuit, where Simone Alessio, Vito Dell'Aquila, world and Olympic number one in the -58 kg category, and Antonino Bossolo in Para Taekwondo will also be present. (PRIMASPORT)
