ARGENTINA Argentina national football team coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that he has begun negotiations to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the year. In a press conference before the friendly matches, Scaloni explained that he met with Italian Football Federation president Claudio Tapia to explore the possibility of continuing the partnership.
“"Both sides are open to it, but we've only just begun discussing it," Scaloni said. The coach emphasized that the decision was made after considering both sporting and financial considerations, and that he found compelling reasons to continue.
Regarding the future of the national team without Lionel Messi, who will play his final match on October 6, Scaloni emphasized that he analyzed the situation role by role, evaluating the players' ages and their ability to maintain a possession-based style of play and develop quality players.
“We believe it's possible to continue,” he said, adding that there are young players ready to contribute to the project, even with different tactical experiments, without however giving up the playing identity of the 'Seleccion'.
