SPIELBERG – Today at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria, Pirelli held a day of testing as part of its tire development efforts for the 2027 MotoGP World Championship, where it will be the sole supplier starting next season.
The test saw the participation of 18 riders, including regulars and test riders, including several rookies such as Johann Zarco, Diogo Moreira, Takaaki Nakagami, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, Jack Miller, Marc Márquez and others, representing Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, Aprilia and KTM.
Throughout the day, soft, medium, and hard compound slick solutions were tested for both the front and rear, with prototypes of future 850cc bikes and adapted current models. Weather conditions were stable and sunny, with track temperatures ranging from 19°C to 38°C.
Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli's Motorcycle Racing Director, called the test a further step forward in the development of the world championship range, thanking manufacturers, teams, and riders for their collaboration. He also emphasized that the feedback, especially regarding grip and stability, was overall positive and that development will continue ahead of the official 2027 tests scheduled for Valencia.
Pirelli engineers worked closely with all stakeholders to gather crucial data, while the teams independently defined their work programmes, suggesting a progressive approach starting with the soft compounds.
