Parma broke the ice and earned their first win of the season. At the Tardini, Carlos Cuesta's team defeated Genoa 2-1 in a game that remained tied until the final minutes. Romero broke the deadlock in the first half, Osmajic temporarily equalized for the Rossoblu, and Almqvist scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute.
The three points allow the team to move up to four points and breathe a sigh of relief after a difficult start to the season. Genoa, however, continues its downward spiral, still winless and stuck in last place with just one point.
The match took a long time to get going. During a first half with few chances and played mostly in midfield, neither team managed to create any truly dangerous opportunities. Romero broke the deadlock in the 38th minute.
The Parma striker received the ball in a deep pass, beat Ostigard, and beat Bijlow to make it 1-0. The Genoa defender, already booked, avoided a foul that could have earned him a red card, thus leaving the field open for his opponent.
Parma had a chance to double their lead just four minutes later, but Toure squandered a great opportunity and allowed Genoa to stay in the game. Cuesta's team therefore went into the break with a one-goal lead, despite a strong finish to the first half.
In the second half, the Grifone tried to pick up the pace. In the 68th minute, Messias tried to equalize directly from a free kick, but Corvi was undeterred and saved the effort.
The Crociati goalkeeper, however, was powerless two minutes later. Colombo, fresh from his arrival, immediately found the right lane for Osmajic, who surprised the Emilian defense and coolly beat Corvi. The goal that tied the game at 1-1 seemed to be the match-changing move and a boost for Genoa.
The new equilibrium lasted only ten minutes. In the 80th minute, Elphege played a through ball to Almqvist, who attacked the space and, once inside the box, beat Bijlow with a precise left-footed shot. It was the goal that made it 2-1 and liberated the Tardini crowd.
Genoa attempted a late response, but Parma defended their lead with composure and led the match to the final whistle. Cuesta thus secured his first Serie A win as Parma coach. Genoa, however, returns home with an increasingly worrying position in the table: after five games, they have only one point and are yet to secure their first win of the season.
