Daniele Orsato, referee designator, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the new refereeing process that began four matchdays ago in the Italian football league. Interviewed on the Rai Italia program "Casa Italia," Orsato emphasized the importance of the innovations introduced by the IFAB and the commitment of his staff to accelerating the game.
“"How could I not be satisfied? We've found the IFAB innovations, but my guys are doing an extraordinary job trying to speed up the game even more. Following FIFA and UEFA guidelines, we intervene with VAR for clear and obvious errors," Orsato said.
The referee also clarified that the number of penalties will not depend on the referees, but on fouls committed on the field: "We awarded the first penalty with the on-field review because it was available. We'll try to make fewer mistakes ourselves and correct them if necessary, but the spectacle must come first.".
Orsato added that it's important to boost referees' self-esteem to make them stronger: "You work on mistakes, but you have to be brave and not be afraid to make mistakes. I always tell this to my children, not just referees.".
Finally, the referee didn't encounter any problems in the first few days of the new season: "If the morning is a good indicator of the day, we've seen some great matches, which help you export Italian football abroad and make a good impression.".
