ROME – The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has announced the completion of the evaluation and approval process for the project for AS Roma's new stadium in Pietralata. A complex process, according to the ministerial statement, involving administrations, agencies, local authorities, and stakeholders, was completed remarkably quickly thanks to the work of Special Government Commissioner Massimo Sessa and the institutional coordination between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Sport and Youth. After years of waiting, Rome has thus taken a decisive step toward the construction of a modern stadium, designed not only for football but as an infrastructure open to the city 365 days a year. For Minister Matteo Salvini, Roma's new stadium represents much more than a sports facility: it is a strategic infrastructure for the capital, capable of generating development, improving services and connections, and giving the city a modern space, vibrant year-round and fully integrated into the urban fabric. The project also takes on national significance in view of UEFA EURO 2032: providing Rome with a stadium that meets the highest European standards will strengthen Italy's candidacy and the country's ability to host major international sporting events, with modern infrastructure commensurate with Italy's ambitions.
Sports Minister Andrea Abodi also expressed satisfaction at the conclusion of the decision-making conference on Roma's stadium in Pietralata, calling it a demonstration of Italy's expertise in building sports infrastructure. "There is great satisfaction with the work accomplished, including in a short timeframe thanks to everyone's hard work. We are sending a strong, clear, and unequivocal signal of what we are capable of when the tools—in this case, extraordinary ones—are made available, even if they should be ordinary," the minister stated. Furthermore, Abodi announced that the final list of Italian stadiums bidding to host Euro 2032 matches will be presented to UEFA in three days, with the European body then leaving the final decision on which cities will be awarded.
