(PRIMASPORT) SHANGHAI The draw for the Shanghai Masters 1000 has been officially made, and five Italian players are competing. The first quarter, dominated by Alexander Zverev, features sixth-seeded Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini.
Berrettini, ranked No. 47, will enter the match in the second round against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino or a player from qualifying. The Roman will open against American Aleksandar Kovacevic, ranked No. 81, while Cobolli is also in this quarterfinal.
Lorenzo Musetti, No. 25, is the only Italian in the second quarter, which also includes top seeds Ben Shelton (No. 3) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 7). The draw puts Musetti on a potential third-round path against Novak Djokovic.
In the fourth quarter of the draw are Luciano Darderi (No. 19) and Matteo Arnaldi (No. 37), who are tied in the eighth of 16 with Carlos Alcaraz (No. 2) and Daniil Medvedev (No. 5). Darderi enters the match in the second round and could face Stefanos Tsitsipas right away; Arnaldi will debut against a qualifier and, if he wins, will face Taylor Fritz.
The Shanghai Masters 1000 promises to be a highly interesting event for the five Italians present, who will face top-level opponents in the prestigious Asian tournament. (PRIMASPORT)
