The 24-year-old from Veneto won the Italian derby 15-7, taking home the first world title of her career, inheriting the title from the legendary captain. At 38 (a full 17 years after her first appearance in Antalya 2009), Errigo is on the world championship podium for the 24th time (11th individually), just two points behind the all-time record holder Valentina Vezzali. The other two Italians just missed out on a medal: Martina Batini finished 5th and Anna Cristino 6th.
At the end of the individual events, the Italian team has won five medals (one gold and four silver). Foil fencer Martina Favaretto's win is the 125th gold medal in World Championship history, exactly a century after Giorgio Chiavacci's first victory (men's foil) in Budapest in 1926. Meanwhile, the Italian women's foil team has won 98 world championship medals.
