Sveva Romano is the young winner of the Inline Freestyle World Cup, a speed slalom specialty, who competed on the track set up in Milan, in Piazza Duca d'Aosta, in front of the Central Station, as part of the 'Hero Battle Cup'.
Attending the competition, where the athlete from Somma Vesuviana won the prestigious trophy, were Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi, President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana, and Undersecretary to the Presidency with responsibility for Sport and Youth Federica Picchi.
“"The 'Hero Battle Cup'," Governor Fontana emphasized, "brought the world's best athletes in a constantly growing discipline to the heart of Milan and once again demonstrates Lombardy's ability to organize high-profile events. It's an extraordinary showcase, capable of uniting passion and talent," he added, emphasizing the Lombardy Region's intention to continue investing in events that offer young people positive role models through sport.
The event was attended by 500 athletes from more than 25 nations, and the Milanese leg saw the debut of the new format 'Freestyle Mashup', an experimental discipline introduced by World Skate that fuses figure skating, freestyle, and contemporary dance.
“"We are thrilled with Sveva Romano's extraordinary victory," emphasized Undersecretary Federica Picchi, "a success that makes a World Cup event already considered one of the most prestigious on the international World Skate circuit even more special. The Hero Battle Cup in Milan is one of only two European stages of the competition and, more importantly, it awards the highest points on the entire world circuit: 350 points compared to the 200 points for all other stages. For this reason, the Lombardy Region has believed in this sporting event from the beginning, supporting it with a €30,000 grant through the 'Grandi Eventi' call.".
The contests in which the athletes competed ranged from the speed of the Speed Slalom to the technical creativity of the Classic Slalom and the Battle, testing grounds for style and ability to interpret musical pieces.
The technical calendar also includes the Pairs events, which test the synchronicity and understanding between the skaters, as well as the spectacular Free Jump and Slide performances, where physical strength management and braking technique will be the decisive elements in aiming for the podium.
