INPS and Serie C discuss sports pensions at Palazzo Wedekind.

(PRIMASPORT) ROME – A training session promoted by INPS and Lega Pro (Serie C) took place in Rome at Palazzo Wedekind to explore the contribution and social security obligations in professional sports, with particular reference to the regulations introduced by Legislative Decree no. 36/2021.

The conference was attended by prominent representatives, including INPS President Gabriele Fava, Lega Pro President Matteo Marani, and INPS Deputy Director General Antonio Pone, who highlighted the importance of properly implementing regulations to ensure adequate social security protections for coaches, trainers, and sports workers.

Effective July 1, 2023, the Pension Fund for Professional Athletes became the Pension Fund for Sports Workers, extending its coverage to amateur athletes, while amateur athletes are enrolled in the Separate Management. According to INPS data, pension fund members increased from 10,576 in 2023 to 13,686 in 2025, demonstrating the impact of the reform.

The training provided Serie C clubs with operational tools to manage their social security contributions, with particular attention to economic sustainability and the administrative professionalization required by the current regulatory framework. The meeting concluded with a clarification and discussion session between clubs and INPS experts. (PRIMASPORT)
