WEST BANK – FIFA has built two new pitches in Marah Rabah, south of Bethlehem, and Qusin, in the northern part of the West Bank, with the aim of providing local communities with safe spaces where children and young people can play football, compete and socialise.
The mini-pitches, the result of a collaboration between FIFA, the Palestinian Football Association, and the financial support of the Swiss government, will be formally inaugurated on September 25. Until then, they will host the Unite for Peace: Kids' Cup, a five-day tournament involving 14 Palestinian teams with approximately 160 children.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of these spaces for local communities often affected by restrictions and uncertainty: "For children living in communities where life is often disrupted by restrictions and uncertainty, having a place to play football, meet friends, and take part in organized sports is more important than ever." On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, Infantino expressed his hope that these facilities will serve communities for many years to come.
