(PRIMASPORT) PARIS – Italy's diving team also dominates the high diving scene at the European Championships. Elisa Cosetti, who won bronze in Rome 2022, along with Alessandro De Rose, took silver at the continental event in Paris, this time sharing the second place with her boyfriend Andrea Barnabà.
After the first two jumps, Elisa Cosetti was already second with a score of 141.80 (58.50) with a three-position inverted somersault and a double back somersault with a twist (83.30). Ahead of her was Ukrainian Nelli Chukanivska (152.30), and behind her were the surprising Swiss Morgane Herculano (138.60) and the fearsome German Iris Schmidbauer (136.35). She maintained this position thanks to a superb triple Barani front somersault (68.90), and above all with a quadruple Barani tucked back somersault (87.40), impeccable in its elegance, fluidity, and power, bringing her total to 297.20 points. The gold medal went to an uncatchable Nelli Chukanivska with a score of 324.70, the only one to break the three-hundred-point barrier. The bronze medal with 292.15 goes to German Maike Helena Halbisch, with the other German Iris Schmdibauer – the reigning European champion – coming in fifth.
A couple of hours later, Andrea Barnabà, known as Barnaba, achieved a feat, taking silver with a 20-meter score of 386.00 at the end of a highly technical competition. The 22-year-old from Giulia, who finished first on Friday with a score of 185.10 after the initial two rounds, confirmed his talent against more experienced opponents, some of whom had higher program coefficients.
