(PRIMASPORT) BAKU – During the fifth day of the FIJLKAM World Championship in Baku, the Italian representatives suffered eliminations in the preliminary rounds despite some individual victories.
Kenny Komi Bedel, in the -90 kg category, distinguished himself with two clear victories against Gallareta (PER) and Schimidt (BRA), but was stopped in the round of 16 by Murtzoev (UZB) in a tactical match conditioned by sanctions. Giorgia Stangherlin (-70 kg) was eliminated in her first match by Samardzic (BIH), while in the same category Irene Pedrotti defeated Kowaleska (POL) but fell to Petersen Pollard (GBR).
Coach Raffaele Toniolo's commentary emphasized his disappointment with the final result, while acknowledging the athletes' value, which was greater than the rankings indicated.
Tomorrow it will be Gennaro Pirelli's turn in the -100 kg category, starting with the number 1 seed.
Meanwhile, FIJLKAM Karate Sector President Davide Benetello attended the SportAccord Forum in Lausanne, representing the World Karate Federation, strengthening relationships with international sports institutions and contributing to the development and recognition of karate worldwide. (PRIMASPORT)
