Frese beat Milinkovis-Savic with the first real chance, and the game became dangerous for Napoli. After seven minutes, the Neapolitans faced another blow when Alessandro Buongiorno handled the ball in the six-yard box, and Marchetti, after consulting VAR, awarded a penalty. Gift Orban stepped up to take the spot and made no mistake, doubling Verona's lead.

Napoli tried to rally in the second half, and in the 54th minute, Scott McTominay received the ball from Lang and headed it into the bottom left corner. Maradona exploded, and hopes for an equalizer began to swirl, while the pitch battled for every ball. In the 26th minute of the second half, Politano's cross arrived, and McTominay found Hojlund, who scored, but the goal was disallowed for handball.

The equalizer came thanks to captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who received the ball in the 81st minute from Marianucci, who had come on for Elmas, coordinated his play, and beat Montipo. Antonio Conte was furious, calling on the fourth official to control the clock and urging his team not to give up, but despite the Azzurri's siege in the opponent's half, seven minutes of injury time weren't enough. Napoli equalized, and considering how the match began, some might consider it a victory.

Il Napoli pareggia 2 a 2 con i gialloblù: segnano nel primo tempo Frese ed Orban, ripresa a trazione azzurra con i gol di McTominay e Di Lorenzo Napoli.
