The Italian athlete, after reaching the final wearing the number two bib with a qualifying score of 113/125+2, also set the pace in the final, missing just one clay in the second rotation and finishing with a near-perfect 29/30, a score that earned her the title of World University Champion.

“I couldn't have asked for a better debut at a World University Championship,” said an excited Valentina Panza. “I'm truly overjoyed; it's a feeling hard to describe. I approached the final trying to stay focused on each individual clay, without thinking too much about the result, and finishing with a score of 29/30, just shy of the world record, was a tremendous satisfaction. This gold medal is a reward for all the hard work and sacrifices I've made so far. I thank FITAV and FederCUSI for this opportunity, Coach Pierluigi Pescosolido, all my teammates, and the people who support me every day. I will carry this experience in my heart forever.”

Also on the podium with the bronze medal was Elena Navelli (Fiamme Oro) from Chieti (CH), a student of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies at the Polytechnic University of Marche, who qualified first with a score of 113/125+2. In the final, the Chieti-born specialist brilliantly navigated the preliminaries, eventually finishing third, where she had to wait with a score of 20/25.

“"This is my second time competing in a World University Championship," Navelli said, "and compared to my first experience two years ago in New Delhi, where I reached the final but didn't win a medal, I stepped onto the platform with a strong desire to test myself and reach the world podium. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I tried to approach every runway with maximum concentration, not letting mistakes weigh me down, and in the end, the result came. I congratulate Valentina on her gold medal and I want to thank the Federation and FederCUSI for giving me the opportunity to be here today, the Pescosolido coach, my family, and everyone who supported and accompanied me on this journey. I'm returning home with a precious medal, many wonderful memories, and even more motivation for the challenges ahead."”

Czech Zina Hrdlickova finished second with 25/30. Gaia Ragazzini (Carabinieri) from Marina di Ravenna (RA), a student of Law for Business and Public Administration at Alma Mater Studiorum, was a shame. She initially finished fifth in qualifying with 113/125+1, then fourth with 16/20. Ragazzini, however, could console herself with the gold medal and the title of World University Team Champions, earned alongside Panza and Navelli with a combined score of 334/375.

In the men's event, Luca Gerri (Fiamme Oro) from Erbusco (BS), a sports science student at Pegaso, qualified for the final with a score of 114/125 (+1), earning the number two bib. In the race for the podium, the Italian never gave up, finding himself in a duel with Spaniard Daniel Fernandez De Vicente for the gold and silver medals. In the end, the Spaniard prevailed with a score of 28/30, while Gerri took the silver medal with a score of 26/30. Cypriot Giorgos Grigoriou finished third with a score of 21/25.

“I can't hide a bit of disappointment at missing out on gold, but finishing my first World University Championship with a silver medal is still a great satisfaction,’ Gerri commented at the end of the final. ”It's been a long and demanding season, with some great things and some less so, but the important thing is to always give your all.”.

Out of the final were Francesco Di Mari (Fiamme Oro) from Orte (TR), a law student at E-Campus, twelfth with 110/125, and Lorenzo Felici (Marina Militare) from Giano dell'Umbria (PG), a computer and electronic engineering student at the University of Perugia, eighteenth with 104/125. Gerri returned to the podium alongside Di Mari and Filici for the gold and the World Team Championships title with a total of 325/375.

Tomorrow, the World Championships conclude with the Mixed Team Trap competition. The Italian pairs will be Elena Navelli and Luca Gerri, and Gaia Ragazzini and Francesco Di Mari.
