MILAN On the eve of the derby against AC Milan, Inter will have to contend with numerous absences and several uncertainties in their lineup. Inter coach Cristian Chivu hasn't recovered any of his injured players for weeks or months. Consequently, Stones, who has been sidelined since mid-September, will be unavailable, as will Jones and Pavard, whose return is expected next week. Notably, Lautaro Martinez will remain out, having once again missed the match against the Rossoneri, while Luis Henrique remains sidelined.

The situation is different for Paulo Amorim's team, which can count on the recovery of Rabiot, Moreira, and Gila for the derby. Inter, on the other hand, faces a busy schedule, which after the derby includes the Champions League match against Feyenoord and then the league match against Como. With a high number of matches, some players have already been forced to push themselves beyond their physical limits.

Up front, it will be crucial to retain Thuram, a difficult-to-replace absentee, who is expected to continue as a starter. The second striker spot is being contested between Esposito, who has recovered from his injuries but is not in peak form, and Bonny, with Esposito holding a slight advantage.

Midfield is the only area where Chivu can afford to make some changes: Calhanoglu is expected to start, with Barella also confirmed, while the final choice could be between Zielinski and Mkhitaryan, with the Armenian slightly favored given the Pole's strong run in the last match. Sucic and Stankovic appear destined for the bench.

On the flanks, the presence of Bastoni, suspended for the Champions League, will impact the lineup. If Bastoni is moved to central defense, Brazilian Carlos Augusto will drop back to the wing, leaving only Dimarco on the left flank, even though he appears a bit fatigued. On the right, Diouf is preferred over Spence, with the possible alternative of Moreira who could increase defensive coverage.

In defense, Bastoni's role is crucial. Chivu remains available to Bisseck and Akanji: if Akanji is deployed on the left, both will play; otherwise, one of them will be on the bench, with the German being preferred over the Swiss.

Finally, the goalkeeping issue presents some uncertainties: Provedel played a good match against Venezia, but reintroducing him in the derby could almost guarantee a definitive promotion to the detriment of Martinez, creating a delicate balance that needs to be clarified in managing the roles between the two goalkeepers.
