MONTR\u00c9AL \u2013 The thrilling elite race, with Giulio Ciccone finishing ninth, concluded the Italian team's adventure at the Montreal 2026 Road World Championships. The final haul was five medals: one gold, three silvers, and one bronze, a significantly better result than in recent editions. <\/span>The gold medal won in the Team Time Trial Mixed Relay perhaps better than any other result represents the overall value of the movement, capable of performing at a high level in all areas. In addition to the silver medals won by Filippo Ganna in the Elite time trial, Nicolas Milesi in the U23 time trial, and Matilde Rossignoli in the Junior road race, and the bronze medal won by Elisa Longo Borghini in the Elite road race, there are also numerous top-ten finishes, starting with Longo Borghini's fourth place in the time trial. <\/span>Italy finished fourth in the medal table. With five podium finishes, however, it leads the way in total medals, tied with Spain and Belgium.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congratulations to them, to the coaches, and to the staff present in Canada. Our movement sent a strong signal, even in an increasingly competitive and challenging environment. Brandon McNulty won the Elite World Championships at the end of a grueling race, finishing in 6:17:04, 13 seconds ahead of Michael Matthews and Mathieu van der Poel. Italy remained in the lead for a long time, pushing Giulio Ciccone into the fight for the podium: the Abruzzo native finished ninth at 14 seconds, after a last-gasp push alongside Tom Pidcock. Christian Scaroni was 18th at 3:12, Davide Piganzoli 20th at 3:20, and Lorenzo Mark Finn 55th at 10 minutes.
