The Italian men's water polo team has reached the World League semifinals. In Sydney, the Italian team defeated Georgia 18-12 in the Super Final quarterfinals and will face Greece in the semifinals on Saturday, July 25th at 12:15 p.m. Italian time. In the other semifinal, Australia, after beating Spain 23-21 on penalties, faces Hungary, who defeated Croatia 16-11. The first-place match is scheduled for Sunday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m., with the third-place match at 6:30 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE MATCH. The Azzurri started like a rocket, with a 4-0 run in the first five minutes; Georgia then scored three goals, bringing the score back to within one man at the start of the second half. The score reached halftime at 7-5 (Italy 4\/7 and Georgia 2\/7 with man power). The difference in preparation with Georgia, who had a few more weeks of play, was evident, but Italy was still superior. The gap widened in the third period, and Italy finished ahead 13-8.
