LJUBLJANA - Azzurra Ballan is the new European champion in the Junior Women's Road Race. On the 66-kilometer course in Šenčur, the Italian rider won Italy's first gold medal at the European Road Championships, finishing a race she led from the start. Ballan entered the action, which began after the first descent from Možjanca, with a group of five riders in the lead. As the kilometers passed, her lead over the peloton grew to over two minutes. In the finale, after Spaniard Naxara Odriozola broke away, four riders remained contending for the title.
